Dr Andrea Genre is a member of the advisory board of the project.
Andrea Genre holds a master degree in Biology and obtained his PhD in Fungal Biology and Biotechnology in 2006 at the University of Turin (Italy), where he is currently carrying out his teaching and research as an Associate Professor. His main interest is in plant cell biology of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) interactions and during his early studies, in collaboration with LIPM CNRS-INRAE, Toulouse (France), he applied live cell confocal imaging to describe a novel plant cell apparatus that anticipates the penetration of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in the lumen of root epidermal and cortical cells. Since 2012 he started his own group and projects, outlining possible evolutionary/developmental connections between pre-penetration responses and cell cycle reactivation. He also contributed to characterizing short-chain chitin oligosaccharides as major signalling molecules of AM fungi, and is now interested in their potential application as symbiosis promoters in agriculture.
Andrea Genre is an Associate Editor for New Phytologist since 2020 and Specialty Chief Editor for Frontiers in Plant Science. He published over 90 papers with over 4000 citations and an h-index of 31 (Scopus).
